A trip to remember for OA Hadley BTEC Music Technology students

Oasis Academy Hadley students got more than they bargained for on a recent Academy trip to Global Radio in Leicester Square.

As part of their BTEC Music Technology, students visited Global Radio, who own some of the UK’s most popular radio stations including Capital, Capital Xtra, Heart, Radio X and LBC.

On their visit, the group met with a team from The Big Music Project who work with fourteen to twenty five year olds who are interested in a career in the creative industries. The Big Music Project Team spoke honestly about the challenges of working in the music business, but gave some helpful tips about the skills and experience that will help our students to fulfil their ambitions to work in music.

The group then had a tour of the radio stations and got to see behind the scenes.  The highlight of the trip was being invited to have a chat with Russell Brand and global music-star Noel Gallagher as they recorded a show for Radio X.  The clip was broadcast as part of his show that week and a clip from it was also shared on the station’s social media – you can watch it here.

What is more, the group were then invited back to attend the Music Potential Showcase at the KOKO concert venue in Camden in May.

“This was a trip which we will all be remembering for a long time yet, and has only fired my passion to follow my dream of working in the music industry.”
