During the last week of half-term, almost a 1000 colleagues from across Oasis Community Learning's fourteen schools in the North gathered together at Oasis Academy Lister Park, Bradford, for the first ever OCL Northern Regional Conference.
Hosted by Oasis Academy Lister Park’s Principal Ian Simpson and his team, the attendees split into Primary and Secondary groups and were addressed by Philip Beaumont and Rachel Jones, Regional Directors for the North. Both talked about the remarkable achievements within all of Academies in the region in the last year including best ever Ofsted reports for Oasis Academy Parkwood and MediaCityUK, and Oasis Academy Lister Park being taken out of Special Measures.
The focus of the Conference was to secure and advance the improvements that have been made; to strengthen relationships between academies, to equip one another with resources and best practice, and to inspire each other anew with a passion to create communities where everyone is included and able to contribute.
Breaking out into groups, workshops were held for each of the individual roles; finance staff, IT technicians, data managers, teachers, teaching assistants and Academy Councillors each received bespoke guidance and training.
CEO of OCL, John Murphy, delivered a keynote speech on the wider Oasis group of Academies and how during this academic year ahead we are concentrated on what is required to ‘Secure Good and beyond.’ He shared with the delegates his vision for the future, and the plans in place for OCL to progress.
Founder of Oasis, Rev Steve Chalke MBE, closed the Conference by talking on the Oasis ethos and brand and how every interaction with the people Oasis serves reflects the care and compassion that we as an organisation have for our communities. He ended the session by bringing us back to the importance of Oasis’s 9 habits, how they influence who we are, how we act, and who we can become.
