Each day across the country, many of Oasis Community Learning’s students receive their hot and healthy lunch from a team from Sodexo, who are often an important part of each Academy’s school family. This week one of those who goes “above and beyond” to serve our young people won a national award in recognition.
Sharon Hobson, Catering Manager at Oasis Academy Watermead, Sheffield, won Sodexo's North Region award for "Catering Excellence," before she went on to win the Overall Award for UK Schools.
Sodexo held its annual Star Awards ceremony at the Westminster Park Plaza Hotel in London on Thursday 23 November. The Star Awards ceremony celebrates the most outstanding of its 34,000 employees across 23 categories. Sodexo ambassador Matt Dawson and Brand Director Melanie Duffett hosted the evening.
Sodexo Business Area Manager Lindsay Rhys-Jones, and Sodexo Account Manager Mike France, joined Sharon at the Awards. Her prize was in recognition of the team at Oasis Academy Watermead preparing “food of consistent quality and presentation, excellent client customer satisfaction, innovative work on special occasions and supporting the school with projects.”
On hearing the good news, Lynne Goodhand, Principal of Oasis Academy Watermead, says “We are thrilled to hear that Sharon, and her team, have been recognised with this award which is richly deserved.”
“Nothing is too much trouble for Sharon; whatever the situation or event, the children at Oasis Academy Watermead get a superb service. The catering staff are very much part of the family at the Academy, and we are very grateful for all they do for us.”
The ceremony, which was attended by over 600 people, began with a drinks reception, followed by a three-course dinner and prize giving led by Sodexo UK and Ireland Regional Chairman Sean Haley.
Sean Haley, Regional Chairman, Sodexo UK & Ireland, said in his opening speech: “This is the evening when we celebrate your success; the great things you do every day – day in, day out – that makes Sodexo successful.
“There are people in this room tonight who spend their time at work making every day a better day for our clients, consumers and each other. You deserve to be recognised and rewarded for everything you do; you are critical to the future of this business.”
